Rescue a Slave

Last year, the Impact Nations family sent 862 children from the brick factory to school.

This year, factory owners are asking us to do it again and our goal is 1,200 children.

Meet Ganesh

Ganesh was nine years old when his older sister, Neeru, got married and moved from a small village in India to the big city of Chandigarh. With a total of nine children in the family, their parents couldn't afford to care for all of them, so Neeru and her new husband brought Ganesh with them to the city.

Soon, Ganesh and Neeru discovered that their dreams of a successful new life in the city were misplaced. Ganesh had longed for a proper education, but it wasn't to be. He quickly discovered that his sister's husband was an abusive drunkard. They lived in a very small hut, so Ganesh could see everything his sister was going through. It wasn't long before Ganesh was also receiving regular beatings.

The husband forced Neeru and Ganesh to work in a brick factory because he wanted more money for liquor. Just a small boy, Ganesh was naturally afraid of the big machines and the heat. "I was always very scared, but the things went worse when I saw two men getting severely injured because of the heat. Those men lost their hands and I lost my hope for the future", Ganesh recalls. "I knew I was going to spend my whole life working in that factory."

After three years of abuse and brutal working conditions, Ganesh himself became increasingly violent and frustrated. But hope was on the horizon. One day, our partners from New Life City arrived at the brick factory to invite children to attend school. Neeru was delighted to discover that her brother’s registration fees, uniforms, school supplies, and a daily meal would all be provided. Instead of working all day in the dangerous factory, Ganesh could go to school. In addition, Neeru and her husband began to receive counseling. That is good news to the poor!

Ganesh was one of 862 children who were rescued from a life in the brick factories this year, but there are thousands of kids just like him who are still waiting. You could be the one to change a child’s future.
